Q What was your first impression when hearing “Kogarashi”?
Taniguchi: I thought that it’s perfect for the season. Even if you hadn’t experienced something as the lyrics, it has a strong narrative that makes you feel like watching a drama or a movie, I’d be happy if people could listen to it in the cold weather
Q In this single, Taniguchi-san becomes BACKS member as well BACKS center for the first time
Taniguchi: I look forward to being able to join “BACKS LIVE!!” which I have been watching. I could tell that they are always tackling the performance with their very intense energy and their big enthusiasm, so I’m happy to be able to participate in it
Q 2nd generation Inoue Rina-san will graduate with this single. What do you honestly think about it?
Taniguchi: When I heard about her graduation, I was truly shocked, like, “Inoue-san, really…?”. I didn’t see it coming, or rather, it was something truly unexpected. We had been getting more opportunities to work together in “SakuraMeets”, so I felt more surprised than anything. After the formation announcement for the 13th single, it makes me want to cherish this single period even more
Q What kind of senior Inoue-san is to you, Taniguchi-san?
Taniguchi: She is truly a reliable senior. I don’t mean that that means I can do whatever, but even when I made a huge blunder in “SakuraMeets”, she is a senior who would skillfully respond to it, so I think of her a senior who gives a sense of ease
Inoue: “SakuraMeets” is a show where we get to do whatever we want. I think that (Taniguchi) has the personality of someone who seriously takes on things, so I hope that she can loosen up in “SakuraMeets” (laughs)
Q With less than two months toward her graduation ceremony, is there anything that you’d like to learn from Inoue-san?
Taniguchi: Inoue-san is truly good at singing, even in concerts I could hear her very beautiful singing voice through the in-ear monitor. So I’m curious to know how she keeps it stable, and what she keeps in mind when singing. I’ve been imitating her way of singing a little, so I’d like to learn as much as I can in this period
Q 2025 had many changes, such as “the graduation of all 1ki”, “4ki’s entrance”, and “the first tour led by 2ki”; but what kind of a year has it been for Taniguchi-san?
Taniguchi: I’m from Yamaguchi, and this year we were able to perform at the neighboring Hiroshima province, so my family and a lot of friends who have helped me came to watch. When this happens, you’ll find them even when the venue is filled with people, and I worked hard not to cry. I think that I was able to convey my gratitude through my performance
Q On the other hand, do you have any regrets?
Taniguchi: I joined the “SakuraMeets” line up starting this year, and I’d like to loosen up more. Even when I thought “I want to fool around a bit”, I don’t really have the courage to do it, so I’d like to fool around more in the future
Q Does the senior have any advice for her?
Inoue: You can learn the joy of being able to do weird things on TV. I’m someone quiet, so at first I felt embarrassed about it, but as I gained more experience there was a moment where I thought “I sure am doing something weird right now”, and I was able to enjoy it after overcoming that. I am sure that this moment will come for you too
Q This year, I think that the impact of the five days of Dome performance is especially big. How did you feel about it, Taniguchi-san?
Taniguchi: The first Sakurazaka46 concert that I saw before joining was Tokyo Dome. I could never forget the sparkle my seniors showed and my own excitement at the time, so I always take on concerts while thinking that the fans must be feeling the same way when they come to see us. They all have taken us to many different places, and I’d like to continue to work hard with humility and earnest as not never forget each and every scenery
Q What do you think of the 4th gen?
Taniguchi: Although they are the juniors, I think that our relationship is a casual one. I do think that it’s because we are close in age, but they are all so proper that they used honorific speech by mistake (laughs). So, I want to show more senior vibe… I wonder if I can do it… But I think that we are talking at just the right distance
Q If you were to choose one that you are interested in?
Taniguchi: Asai Konomi-chan. She’s a year older than me, but we have a similarity in the way we have parted bangs from the time we joined, and it seems that we also have similar hobbies so I’m interested in her
Q What is your goal in 2026?
Taniguchi: Personally, I’d like to grow even more. I hope that next year I can further display what I have learned this year. As a group, I hope that it could be a year where not only more people come to know Sakurazaka46, but also understand the kind of performances that we do
Q Please tell us your “secret of making one’s dream come true”
Taniguchi:”Enjoy everything that you do”, this is something that my mom tells me often before a concert, and I place great importance on it
Q Please tell us about your latest beauty trend!
Taniguchi: If I think that someone’s make-up is cute, I would look up or ask what kind of colors she use; I also try to wear make-up as much as I can during lessons to look cute as best as I can as well as to serve as make-up practice
Q Who is the most knowledgeable?
Taniguchi: Tamura Hono-san. She has a large collection of eyeshadows, and always suggest things like “This color would suit you”, which I always use as reference
