Q I got the impression that Sakurazaka46 has many energizing songs, but is there a particular song that makes you feel positive when you listen to it?
1 We do a lot of jumping in the performance of the 11th single “UDAGAWA GENERATION”. It has an energetic and powerful choreography that is unusual for Sakurazaka46’s title song, and everyone dances it with a big smile on their faces, so listening and dancing to it makes me feel powerful and positive.
If I had to say what songs I enjoy performing, then I enjoy hyping up the crowd during performance. Because I’d be able to shout in such a loud way like I never do in my daily life (laughs).
Q When you hype the crowd in ”Ikumodo” and “Mou Ikkyoku” , it really heats up the venue, right?
Yeah. The Buddies responded to the words I shouted, and it really does feel fun to hear the venue going “Wooooo!!” and it makes me happy.
Q Are there any songs by artists other than Sakurazaka46 that make you feel positive when you listen to them?
I really like Fujii Kaze-san, and listening to “Matsuri” makes me feel positive and get in the mood. I’m the kind of person who always listen to music whenever I have the time to, such as during travel, and I listen to this song during that time as well.

Q Which Sakurazaka46 makes you feel positive when you’re with them?
Everyone makes me feel that way, but when I am with my genmate Morita Hikaru, we just can’t stop laughing! (laughs). We’d end up goofing around when we are together, and we’d be laughing nonstop unless someone stopped us. I also hang out with Hikaru often in our private time, so you can say we get on well. Plus she laughs easily and has a broad sense of humor, so it makes me happy how she laughs at everything that I do
Q Wasn’t there a story of you two playing in an ordinary park until it got dark?
That’s right. And it’s not like we did anything special either (laughs). When we are together, we can have positive conversations, and I think that positive vibe fills the space.
Q Continuing on, what are your positive foods, which makes you feel energized when you eat them?
I love spicy food like malatang, so when I feel tired I’ll crave for something spicy. I can handle high levels of spice. I also love umeboshi. They are like my blood, something that I can’t live without (laughs).
Q Do you have a personal power spot, or a place that you want to go to when you are feeling down?
My family home. I love my home so much that I'd go home if I have about two days off work. They’ll cook delicious meals for me, and everyone in my family is positive, so no matter what I consult with them about they would give me positive feedback. I’ve been really helped by that.
Q What kind of things do you talk to them about?
My father is a Buddies, so I consult with him a lot about work. His phone wallpaper and such are all my photos, and he set it such that it changes every time he opens it (laughs). He even keeps it updated to the latest photos. I’m happy that he pays attention to the work I do. When I was offered the Vice Captain position, and I was wondering what to do, I consulted him about it; He is someone I rely on for work-related consultations. My mom is always “my mom”, my funny mom who always makes delicious meals for me.
Q In the (ViVi event's) press conference, you mentioned that you have more than 20 cameras. I have the impression that you have always seemed fond of photography, such as your “TenCame” series that is popular with members and fans. What kind of pictures do you enjoy taking the most?
I enjoy taking pictures of Sakurazaka46 members the most. I think that there are expressions and shots that can only be taken by another member, so I want to aim for that kind of shots with casual vibes. I love taking pictures of the members’ faces.
Q Do you usually take those casual shots suddenly without a notice?
I usually announce with “I’m taking it!” before starting to take pictures. I want to capture them looking confident in front of the camera. Of course, the candid pictures are cute too, but I can take better expressions when they are prepared.

Q What is your routine to switch into a positive mindset before important work?
I tend to be positive in general, but I also do self-suggestion. I always keep positive thoughts in mind such as “Today will definitely be a fun one!”, and whenever something nice happen– no matter how small, such as meeting a nice person, I try to appreciate that good quality to the fullest.
Even if something unpleasant happens, I will desperately try to look for something positive out of it. Having that mindset helps me live a happier life, so to say, it helps me develop a habit to stay positive. Now I can naturally adopt such a way of thinking without trying to be conscious of it.
Q That’s amazing. Since when do you start thinking that way?
I think it’s because I have always been someone positive, and there are many positive girls among the members, and I also think that the fans would be happier to see a positive attitude; So, I decided to live a positive life. Because of the influence of my surroundings, at one point, it has become something I naturally do.
Q I have seen how both fans and members say things like “Ten-san is Sakurazaka46’s sun”, but what are your thoughts on that?
I feel grateful (laughs). I also think that way. I’m the loudest person in the dressing room, and I think I am one of the more cheerful members.
Q Speaking of which, in an episode of your show (SokoSaku), didn’t you say something like “I’d like to make the most of my cheerful nature and play an active role in the dressing room”?
I have this desire to be the funniest, and I feel frustrated like “Gahhh!!~” when I meet funny people (laughs). I’d think, “I want to be the funniest! I want to surpass that person!”. Of course, I do think of them to be funny, but there is this competitive feeling, so to say. I always feel competitive toward funny people.

Q In this past year, you’ve been able to decorate the cover many times. The response must have been big?
Recently I’ve been recognized as ViVi’s model, and there were a lot of people who didn’t know that I’m active as an idol. There were those who happened to see videos of concert playing and asked, “Ten-chan is an idol?”. I was really happy to think that I’m being known as a ViVi model as well.

Q And the first single after becoming a vice captain will be released on 10th June.
We held the 5th Anniversary concert at the National Stadium, and I think that it has become a milestone for us. I hope that we can show more and more of the new Sakurazaka46 from here on, and we have taken on quite a lot of challenging things this time around. It has been a year since the 4th generation joined, and I hope that we can continue to deliver even more of the renewed Sakurazaka46 from here on.
Q You mentioned that you consulted about the Vice Captaincy with your father, but how did you feel when you first heard about it?
I was shocked. I was really torn about it with thoughts such as “Will it really be okay to be me?” and "Surely there must be another member who would fit the position more?". But after listening to the opinion of many people, and being told that I was selected with the consideration of the group’s current situation, I decided to give it a try. It is something that I came to after much consideration.
Q When it was announced, the entire National Stadium was shocked. But your junior mentioned, “With Ten-san as our Vice Captain, the future will be bright”, didn’t she?
It made me so happy, they really are such good girls. They make me feel glad to have become the Vice Captain, as I thought “Everything will be fine with them around”, so I am thankful to hear them say it.
Q But to your genmates, you are “the youngest", and they have mentioned how they wished you to do the role without putting too much pressure on yourself.
Everyone told me that I can just stay the same as always, and that really helped me, so to speak. I think I am able to maintain a good balance without me putting pressure on myself. Above all, I feel reassured to have Captain Matsuda Rina with me. I hope to have fun with everyone while giving her my support.
Q And finally, speaking of May there is the term “May blues”, which is a seasonal malaise as people are feeling exhaustion toward their new environments. Could you give positive words of encouragement to the readers?
I believe that good days are sure to come after a rough patch, so while waiting for those better days to come, I think you should keep in mind “How can I live today in a positive and joyful way?” which will brighten your day. I hope that you can try to adopt such a mindset, even for just a little.
And as Sakurazaka46 wants to be the source of positivity for everyone, we will continue to do our best to be able to deliver even as much positive energy as we can!
