She said, “I’d like to be a memorable center, to become someone that people can say, “Only Airi-chan can center ‘Ai MUST BE””
She has experienced many different positions, from centering the 3rd gen song “NatsuChika”, BACKS song “Kogarashi” & “I will be”, as well as being positioned at front and back row.
“I think that the privilege of experiencing many different positions is being able to see the seniors, genmates, and juniors so many times from where I’m dancing; I also think that the experience of seeing them from that perspective is very valuable”, she said without doubt. “I think that what I have seen has become a source of strength to me”
”I received so many inspirations not just from my seniors, but also my genmates,” she continued. “Yamashita (Shizuki)’s performance is very memorable, and (Murai) Yu’s expressiveness continues to improve and convey the worldview of the song more keenly. They made me think that I need to work hard too.”
On the other hand, despite her wealth of experience, there is something from the dance of this work that she struggles with. This song has a latin-style melody, questions the nature of love. “There are ballet-like movements that are quite rare in Sakurazaka46. Usually we put more emphasis on stopping and striking movements, so we’ve actually rarely done the kind of supple, flowing movements seen here. Me and the other members quite struggled with it.”
In the last single, she took on the most difficult-ever dancing with a rock tune, “But this time, I felt muscle pain in places that I haven’t felt before. I was so focused on making my toes look graceful that my legs ended up really sore… I learned that I need these muscles too, so I plan to train them as well”
The group will hold their “6th YEAR ANNIVERSARY LIVE” at ZOZO Marine Stadium on 14th & 15th November. “I think, ‘I’ll take the lead’. But if I try too hard, I won’t be able to perform the way I want to, so while keeping myself relaxed I want to deliver a performance that makes people think ‘all the members looked so beautiful back then’”
”Sakurazaka46 has a lot of tall members with long limbs, and as I am on the smaller side, I’d like to dance with such power as not to lose to them while also taking care not to seem like I’m flailing around.”
As a hard worker who dedicated herself to learning, she mentioned, “I have never once performed with the same expression or dancing”. By putting extra attention on the way she presents herself, she can radiate a dazzling presence no matter where she is on the stage.
Last year in this season. she centered the BACKS song, “I will be”. A year after that, the “will be” has turned into “MUST BE”.
